Meliá Vinpearl Phu Quoc: Is a $600 Villa Worth It?

About $600 a night is a lot to spend in Vietnam. But at Meliá Vinpearl Phu Quoc, that was the approximate nightly price of our three-bedroom villa with its own pool and the ocean right outside. We could run from our pool to the sea at sunset, and for that moment, we had the place to ourselves. It was incredible.
If you want a stay where the hotel is a real part of your trip, I thought this was a fantastic splurge. The pool was a temperature I actually wanted to swim in, breakfast was enormous, and the service and spa were wonderful. If you’re trying to stretch your Vietnam budget as far as possible, I’d spend differently. Here’s what made it worth it to me, and what I’d check before booking the same experience.
Choose the villa with the view you’re paying for
We stayed in the 3-Bedroom The Level Villa with Ocean View and Private Pool. I’m spelling out the full name because there are other private-pool villas here with garden or lake views. The ocean-facing position was a huge part of why I loved ours.
Meliá currently lists this category as beachfront, with 270 m² of space, two king-size beds and two single beds. The resort is at Bai Dai in the Ganh Dau area of Phu Quoc. When comparing prices, check this exact category and its location within the resort, especially if being able to go straight from the pool to the beach is what’s drawing you in.

There is a very specific hotel disappointment I need to talk about: paying hundreds of dollars for a room with a private pool, getting excited to use it, and discovering that the water is FREEZING. Then you’re wondering whether you can ask someone to turn it up without being annoying, or whether that’s even an option.
The pool here was perfect for me. I actually wanted to get in! That sounds like a low bar until you’ve paid for a beautiful pool you barely use. With the palms and the ocean right beyond it, ours was a huge part of what made the villa so lovely.
If pool temperature could make or break your booking, ask the hotel whether it’s heated and what to expect for your travel month.
Leave an evening free for this
I was born and raised in Florida, so I’ve been lucky enough to see some incredible sunsets. The one over the water here still blew me away. The sky went gold and orange, and we were right there, able to run from our own pool down to the ocean.
Having that outside the villa made such a difference. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves in that moment.
If you book a villa like this, give yourself time to enjoy it. I’d keep at least one evening free instead of filling every day with activities and only coming back to sleep. You’re paying for the setting as much as the bedrooms, and this was the part I wouldn’t want to miss.
Breakfast, golf carts, and a facial worth booking
The breakfast buffet was enormous, and the food quality and customer service added so much to the stay. They also drove us around in golf carts. Between that and being able to spend time by our own pool, it was a very easy place to relax.
I got a facial at the spa and thought it was fantastic. Spa appointments while traveling can be a gamble, and sometimes the treatment really doesn’t live up to what you paid. This one did. Coming from the US, I was impressed by the price, the quality of the service, and how worthwhile the whole experience felt.
I’d happily make room in the budget for a facial here. Meliá calls the spa YHI Spa; check the current treatment menu and price before booking.
When the villa makes sense for your trip
For people traveling together who want separate bedrooms and a shared place to relax, this is worth a look. Compare the whole-villa price with what you’d otherwise spend on rooms for your group. The private pool and beachfront position are part of that comparison too. Check the permitted occupancy for your party before dividing the cost.
I’d also consider it as a special part of a longer trip: a few days where enjoying the hotel is the plan. I found Phu Quoc an expensive way to travel Vietnam, but this felt like very good value for the particular kind of luxury we were getting. Three bedrooms beside the ocean, our own pool, wonderful views, good food and lovely service all came together.
If your plan is to be out from morning until night, I’d put more of the budget toward those adventures and choose a less expensive stay. For a beach break with time to enjoy the villa, this was one of my favorite luxury moments in Vietnam.
What I’d check before booking
- The exact villa: select the three-bedroom The Level category with an ocean view and private pool. A different pool villa may have a different outlook.
- The full price: compare your dates and guest count, including taxes, fees, breakfast and cancellation terms. Our roughly US$600 nightly figure is a reference from our stay.
- The Level inclusions: Meliá currently advertises lounge breakfast and a dining/spa discount. Confirm the benefits attached to your booking and what’s included for everyone in the villa.
- Your departure plans: the standard listed checkout is noon. The advertised 4 p.m. late checkout is subject to availability and conditions, so confirm it before relying on it.
Start with the official villa page and the current The Level benefits. If the price works for your trip, leave yourself enough time to enjoy the reason you booked it. For me, that was the pool and the sea right outside.
