A little planning, a lot of lakes
A route that fits your actual day.
Your entrance, available time, and comfortable walking distance narrow the options. Your priorities help choose between the routes that fit. If your answers don’t leave a suitable match, the quiz will tell you.
You’ll get a suggested route, its starting entrance, distance, estimated time, and the tradeoffs to know before booking. Check the park’s current route openings and boat and vehicle times for your visit.

Plitvice routes at a glance
The park calls its trails “programmes.” These are its eight published lake routes. H and C cover both lake areas; B and F suit a shorter visit focused on the Lower Lakes.
| Route / entrance | Distance | Time | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| AEntrance 1 | 3.5 km | 2–3 hours | Lower Lakes and Great Waterfall. A shorter walking loop. |
| BEntrance 1 | 4 km | 3–4 hours | Lower Lakes, Great Waterfall, boat and panoramic vehicle. |
| CEntrance 1 | 8 km | 4–5 hours | Upper and Lower Lakes, starting from the Lower Lakes. |
| EEntrance 2 | 5.1 km | 2–3 hours | Upper Lakes, with boat and panoramic vehicle rides. |
| FEntrance 2 | 4.6 km | 3–4 hours | Lower Lakes and Great Waterfall, starting from Entrance 2. |
| HEntrance 2 | 8.9 km | 4–6 hours | Upper and Lower Lakes, Great Waterfall, boat and vehicles.Hannah’s pick for a longer day |
| K1Entrance 1 | 16.5 km | 6–8 hours | Both lake areas on foot, plus a short boat crossing. |
| K2Entrance 2 | 17.5 km | 6–8 hours | Both lake areas on foot, plus a short boat crossing. |
Times are the park’s published estimates, not promises. Allow extra time for queues, breaks, and photos. For C, the quiz allows a more generous six hours before recommending it, rather than relying on the 4–5-hour estimate.

A few useful answers
Which Plitvice route is best for a first visit?
If you have most of a day and are comfortable with 8.9 km on foot, H from Entrance 2 is Hannah’s firsthand pick for both the Upper and Lower Lakes. C covers both from Entrance 1. For a shorter Lower Lakes visit, consider B from Entrance 1 or F from Entrance 2. The quiz helps match these choices to your own time and walking limits.
Should I choose Entrance 1 or Entrance 2?
Choose your route first if you haven’t booked. A, B, C, and K1 start at Entrance 1; E, F, H, and K2 start at Entrance 2. Already have a ticket? Tell the quiz your booked entrance so its recommendation starts there. Read the entrance and accommodation advice before booking.
Can I fit a route around an afternoon ticket?
Possibly, but the park’s closing time isn’t the only deadline. Routes that use boats and panoramic vehicles depend on their individual timetables. A lower afternoon ticket price doesn’t mean there’s enough time for H. Check the services for your date, then use the time you can actually spend on the route. See the boat and vehicle planning advice.
Does a short route mean an easy or accessible walk?
No. Shorter distances can still include stairs, uneven paths, and narrow boardwalks. The park says not all paths are suitable for visitors with limited mobility. If you need a step-free or accessible route, ask the park about a suitable plan before choosing a programme.
Will my recommended route be open when I visit?
The quiz compares published routes; it doesn’t check live openings. Weather, water levels, and seasonal operations can change your options. Check the park’s current conditions and alerts and operating hours again before you travel.
